Script draft 2
The rise in Knife crime

Teenagers in London say not enough is done to tackle the knife crime in the capital.

They raised the concern following news that the number of teenagers stabbed to death in London increased in 2015.
Here’s Fahmida Ali with the story.

The Metropolitan police say that knife crime in London rose by more than 50 percent in London in 2015.

At the end of last year 15 youths had been murdered by the knife.

Already one teenager has been stabbed to death in 2016. 16-year-old Charilie Kuyutompo was murdered at an East London birthday party on 10th January.

This compares sharply with 8 teen fatalities the previous year.

Following this rising trend the Met say they are monitoring the internet and seizing knives bought on the dark web and found in teenagers’ possession.

However, these young Londoners believe that, that is not enough.

In an exclusive email to Wassup FM, one charity sent advice to both the police and young people.

The Ben Kinsella Trust aims to expose the dangers of knife crime.
They say that gang culture and fear are the main reasons why young people become involved with knives.

They believe the police, schools, families and communities should jointly tackle these issues as a starting point.
